What are you doing on Saturday?

This post is sponsored by GapKids. Check out all the fun Shine On activities at your nearest Gap store. For event dates and locations, visit Gap’s Facebook page and join the conversation on Twitter with hashtag #ShineOn.

Since Margaux is getting older I feel like I can do more fun and out of the box art activities with her.  As a former (and hopefully once again) art teacher I love it when companies and the community get involved to bring art to kids.  Being able to express creativity is so important, especially when schools and districts tend to focus more on academics and testing (don't get me started).  For the next three Saturdays GapKids is hosting a program called Shine On Saturdays.  Basically you can bring your kids and do some really cool art projects created by Merrillee of MerMag.

These are happening at select GapKids stores across the country so check out the Facebook page to see if there is an event happening near you!  There will be a new project each Saturday so if you wanted you could take your kids to all three.  I'll be heading to the event this Saturday at the Dallas Galleria to make geometric art and hopefully Margaux will help me make something worthy to put up on her art wall.  The projects for the next two Saturdays include journal making and animal badge making.  How cute is that?! And perfect for back to school!

I especially love that the projects were inspired by the GapKids fall collection.  As someone who loves fashion and who used to be a kid (the best part of starting school?  New clothes!) I love the idea of making some of my own accessories and also that they'll coordinate with my clothes.  So. Awesome.  They've put together a little sneak peek video and I just can't get over the amount of adorable...

If you're local to Dallas you can check out the Shine On Saturday events here:

Saturday, August 11 from 10am-1pm at GapKids at the Dallas Galleria.
Saturday, August 18 from 10am-1pm at GapKids at Stonebriar Mall.
Saturday, August 25 from 10am-1pm at GapKids at Northpark Center.

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective, and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
