Getting to Know...Jess of My Little Mustache
When did you start blogging and why?
I actually started blogging back in 2004 on live journal. Back then I was very involved in the DC Rave/Club scene and live journal was an area to connect with people that I met online on a local rave list serve. We would write about our weekend reviews and what was going on in our life. After I left the club scene I started another blog on wordpress. I kept this blog while I worked in full time ministry at McLean Bible Church. This blog was essentially talking about my photography, missions trips, volunteer work with the students and what inspired me as far as my spiritual life. Once I became a mom to Judah I started another blog which I currently keep up and that blog talks about my daily life, thrift finds, inspiration, crochet and of course my son.
How has your blogging style/content changed over the years?
As you can see from above it has changed quite a bit. I was the party girl who would write up club reviews, turned Christian who worked in full time ministry who talked about my volunteer/missions work turned mama who loves thrifting, taking pictures, crocheting and hanging out with my family.
How do you find time to blog and run a shop while raising Judah?
Oh goodness, thank God for naps! I am actually pretty surprised at how well my shop has taken off. Since last August Im close to 100 sales, looking back I can't believe I've managed to actually crochet 100 items and be a full time stay at home mom with a very feisty and active boy. I normally crochet during Judah's naps or in the evening when my husband comes home and puts Judah to bed. I've been known to burn the midnight oil on orders and play lots of catch up during the weekends when Scott can take Judah with him on some errands or walks.
What's your favorite part of being a work at home mom?
My favorite thing about being a work at home mama to Judah is being able to spend the day with him by taking him on walks, runs, to the park, on a picnic, to a musical event or meeting up with other moms. I love watching him push his trucks around the living room or having him come outside and scoop up dirt from my flower gardens while I work on my flowers. I am grateful that I am able to mentally decompress during his naps by crocheting orders. I love Judahs cuddles, hugs and just being able to watch my little guy grow up. These sweet toddler days won't last long and I know I will treasure them in my heart for the rest of my life.
If you could invite 5 people to dinner (real or fictional) who would they be?
You of course because I know we are meant to meet up! Natalie D, Lauren R and Brooke (three of the sweetest IG mamas I've befriended over the past year) and my sister Rhonda, my heart just aches that she lives in Florida and I live in DC. I wish she was living next door and having dinner with me every single night.
