Ever since I saw J.Crew's Drapey Bateau Tee I have been in love. Two of my favorite things in one shirt, sequins and nautical stripes. Unfortunately, I was not about to pay $60 for what is essentially a tee shirt. (FYI, it's on sale for $29.50 now...if you'd rather forgo the DIY and buy the shirt you can click HERE)
So I found a tee I liked (I got mine at Target for something around $12. You can also find similar shirts at almost any store. I have a ton of them from everywhere from F21, the Gap, etc) and bought some sequins. This project cost me about $17 total. Not too too cheap but if you already have a tee you like and want to use it would be much cheaper. I also bought sequins so that was an additional cost. I had the fabric glue but if you don't have fabric glue you will need to go out and buy some.
Pretty sequins...
They make pretty pretty bokeh...
All you have to do is put a bit of glue on the back of a sequin, decide where you want it to go and glue it down. SO EASY. I used two sizes of sequins but you could do it with all one size, just glue them close together near the shoulders and spread them out as you move further down the shirt. You will need to do the fronts and backs of your shoulders. Depending on the glue you use you'll probably have to wait 72 hours before you can wash your sparkly new tee. Follow directions, yo.
Also, don't attempt this project if you've just done your nails because the glue is kind of vicious. And you will use your nails to help you stick the sequins down on the shirt.
If you're superfancy like I am you'll also sequinify the sleeves. That's just how I roll.

What a cute top! How do the sequins hold up in the wash?
ReplyDeleteI love this! I also love that you created a new word that I will now be trying to somehow fit into convos ;) SEQUINIFY!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I am definitely going to try this with one of my tanks that I'm bored with...
ReplyDeleteThis is so amazing! And yours looks way better than the jcrew one!
